Beezer | St Paul's Carnival, Bristol, 1985.
St Paul's Carnival began back in 1968, organised by local residents looking to bring together the European, African-Caribbean and Asian communities. They wanted to challenge the negative stereotypes of the area and celebrate the positivity and diversity of the community.
Photographer Andrew 'Beezer' Beese was born in Bristol in 1965. Beezer documented his time growing up in the city, which has had a massive cultural impact on the UK and beyond. There is a spontaneous, relaxed feel to his photography.
"I knew most of the people around me, and they knew me. So it wasn't a problem hanging out with the camera. I put my own darkroom together at home, so I'd take photos, develop them and show them to my mates the next day."
