Steven Chandler | Bath, 1986-1989
Steven Chandler studied editorial photography at the University of Brighton from 1991-1995. He currently works independently, pursuing personal projects, and teaching photography workshops in community settings. He lives and works in London, UK.
Steven “I moved to Bath from London in 1985. I became serious about photography after taking some darkroom courses at the Watershed in Bristol. I soon began working for the listings magazine, Venue, and taking on freelance jobs such as weddings and band promos. I also started developing and printing my own work in my basement flat’s makeshift darkroom, which eventually became a printing/processing service called Blow-Up.
“With daily crowds of visitors photographing the city’s beauty, I endeavored to find the grit and reality of everyday working people, an antidote to the tourist image of Bath. This became my ongoing project for the next few years.”
