Bath, 1980s | Steven Chandler

A selection of images documenting everyday life in Bath 1986 – 1989 from the archive of photographer Steven Chandler.

Steven “I moved to Bath in 1985 and took to up photography after some darkroom courses at Bristol’s Watershed. I was soon working for listings mag Venue, and taking on freelance jobs like weddings, band promos etc. I also began developing and printing my own work in my Basement flat’s makeshift darkroom, which eventually became a printing/processing service called Blow-Up”.

“With the daily crowds of visitors photographing the city’s beauty, I endeavoured to find the grit and reality for everyday working people, an antidote to the tourist image. This became my ongoing project for the next few years”.
