Greta Kaur-Taylor | Deptford Northern Soul Club
Greta Kaur-Taylor is a 20-year-old loud & brown poet, photographer, and filmmaker. Her photography work explores youth culture, chronic illness, and mental health.
Greta “I began photographing the Deptford Northern Soul Club just under a year ago. I grew up on Northern Soul thanks to my Warringtonian dad. Growing up in Leicester, there weren’t any Northern Soul nights in the city for young people. When I moved to Manchester and stumbled across DNSC, my mind was blown. It was so vibrant, accessible, and full of young people.”
“The photos I take for club nights aren’t just a manufactured image made for marketing; they are true, genuine, sensitive moments between people. I capture the intimate moments most people miss. Whether the couple I take a photo of kissing will be together forever or it’s a fleeting night out smooch, it doesn’t matter. These are the moments of youth that capture the essence of what it is to feel alive on that dancefloor. It’s human connection.” – Greta Kaur-Taylor.
