Beezer Photos | Open Edition Prints

Photographer Andrew ‘Beezer’ Beese was born in Bristol in 1965. Beezer documented his time in the city, growing up on a scene that included The Wild Bunch sound system, St Paul’s Carnival and the seminal Dug Out club. The Bristol scene of the eighties and nineties had a massive cultural impact that continues to influence the youth of today in the UK and beyond.

As well as his hometown; Beezer captured early nights at Manchester’s iconic Haçienda nightclub at a time of cultural change, when Soulies, Perry Boys and Goths would listen to a mixture of post punk, electro and early house before ecstasy arrived and changed the scene forever.

“I knew most of the people around me, and they knew me. It wasn’t a problem hanging out with the camera. I put my own darkroom together at home, so I’d take photos, develop them and show them to my mates the next day.”
