Chris Hunt | UK, 1970s | Open Edition Prints

Chris Hunt produced an important body of work when he documented the daily lives of working class families in Beeton Grove, Longsight – a small terraced street just a couple of miles from Manchester city centre.

As well as the portraits and images of family members in their homes, Chris captured them at their places of work, out shopping, and in the nearby pubs and social clubs of an industrial 1970s Manchester.

As well as his work in Manchester, Chris also completed a series documenting Wolverhampton in 1975 called ‘Out of the Darkness’ looking at everyday life in and around the city, including the Mander Centre and nearby arcades. The series also highlighted growing racial tensions in the Midlands.
