Appleby Horse Fair | Ryan Ashcroft
Ryan Ashcroft is a self-taught documentary photographer from Chorley, North-West England. Since 2016, Ryan’s photography has taken him to various places, such as chasing part of his ancestry in Palestine, off-grid communities in Wales, travelling circuses across the North, and the historic Appleby Fair, where he camped in the woods and spent the days capturing the cultural event.
Appleby Fair is an annual gathering of Traveller Communities in the town of Appleby, Cumbria. Thousands of families gather in the town for the weekend to buy, sell horses, bet, trade, and meet up with old friends. The fair is world-famous and has existed as a fair for traveller horse trading since 1685.
