The People’s Archive is developed and curated by British Culture Archive. We welcome photographs from across Britain’s communities, showing childhood, home, work, holidays, music, friendship and everyday experience.
BCA reviews submissions and selects photographs for the collection. Submitting photographs does not guarantee inclusion.
Email your photographs to contact@britishculturearchive.co.uk. For larger files or several photographs, you can send a WeTransfer link to the same address.
Please include as much of the following information as you can:
Where and approximately when each photograph was taken.
Who or what it shows.
Any memories or background that help explain it.
Who took the photograph, if known, and how it came into your possession.
Your name and how you would like your contribution credited.
You do not need to know every detail. Please make clear where dates, names or other information are uncertain.
Clear scans or digital copies are welcome.
By submitting photographs, captions or personal accounts under these terms, you confirm that you own the relevant copyright or have the copyright holder’s authority to grant the permissions below. If you are unsure, please contact us before agreeing.
Copyright remains with its existing owner. You grant The People’s Archive Ltd, trading as British Culture Archive (“BCA”), an ongoing, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to reproduce and share your submitted material for the following purposes:
The People’s Archive and BCA websites, social media and newsletters.
BCA-produced zines, books, exhibition catalogues and other publications relating to The People’s Archive, in print or digital form, including editions and reprints offered for sale.
Exhibitions, displays, talks, workshops and educational activities organised or presented by BCA or The People’s Archive, including those delivered with partner organisations.
Publicity and promotional material for BCA, The People’s Archive and the publications, exhibitions and activities described above.
Press coverage of BCA, The People’s Archive and these projects, including photographs supplied to journalists and publications for that coverage.
This permission covers the uses listed above without requiring further approval for each use. No submission fee or royalty is payable to contributors unless separately agreed in writing. The licence is non-exclusive, so copyright holders remain free to use their material themselves and authorise others to use it.
BCA may allow its production suppliers, exhibition partners and press outlets to reproduce the material only as necessary for these purposes.
We may resize photographs, make reasonable adjustments for reproduction and edit accompanying text for length or clarity, while respecting the photograph’s integrity and the account’s meaning. We will credit photographers and contributors using the information supplied. Please tell us if you wish your contribution to remain anonymous.
