Description

ABOUT THE IMAGE

As a photographer for City Life Magazine and the NME during the late 1980s and 1990s, Peter J Walsh was at the heart of Manchester’s groundbreaking acid house, club, and rave scenes. Immersed in this cultural revolution, he captured the energy, faces, and fashions that defined The Haçienda dancefloor as the city emerged as a global centre of music and style.

Alongside his celebrated Haçienda images, Walsh documented many of the era’s most influential bands, creating an enduring visual record of Manchester’s creative ascent.

His work has been widely published and exhibited internationally, including at the National Portrait Gallery. His book Original Ravers was published by British Culture Archive in 2025.

All British Culture Archive editions include a white border around the image. Border widths vary from print to print, reflecting the original proportions of the photograph.

For presentation, we recommend using a custom-cut mount sized to the printed image area. This ensures the full image, signature, and edition details remain visible.

Professional framers will be able to advise on appropriate mounting, archival materials, and glazing. Prints may also be framed without a mount if preferred, although a mount is typically used for an exhibition-style finish.

British Culture Archive prints and editions are supplied unframed.

All British Culture Archive prints and editions are prepared with care by our professional print lab. Smaller prints are packed flat using archival materials, while larger works are rolled and shipped in robust tubes designed for fine art transport. Each print is inspected and securely packaged prior to dispatch.
