Debby Besford is an established social documentary photographer with over 25 years of experience. Her extensive body of work includes personal projects and commissioned assignments published in national newspapers and magazines, as well as touring exhibitions.
Debby “The Scooter Reunion” is a notable collection of work that I produced while studying photography. The rally took place during the May Bank Holiday weekend in Great Yarmouth where Mods, skins, and rockers from across the UK would gather to camp there and whizz along the seafront on their Vespas, Lambrettas, or motorbikes.
“I was captivated by these subcultures and the vibrant energy they exuded, as well as their distinct identities expressed through fashion, hairstyles, and iconic customised scooters. I also had an interest in ska music and fashion at that time, which opened up my world as a photographer.”
"Throughout the project, I aimed to capture the essence of these young people, documenting their unique styles and camaraderie and the sense of community that emerged during these gatherings."
