Jeanie Jean is a British documentary photographer based in Kent. Her work centres on subculture, music and nightlife, with particular attention to the people who sustain these scenes and the ways they continue through new generations.
Her ongoing series Still Stomping: 21st Century Northern Soul began in 2023 and follows dancers and club nights across Britain. The photographs focus on movement, dress, the social life of the dancefloor and the relationship between established participants and younger audiences. Her earlier BCA gallery Slimelight documents the long-running London club and its goth, post-punk and industrial community.
Jean’s Northern Soul photography has appeared in British Vogue, Dazed, the Evening Standard, HERO and The Guardian. In 2025, a photograph from Slimelight was nominated in the Club Culture category at the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards. Northern Soul Dancers, 2023 was subsequently included in Assouline’s London Chic through British Culture Archive.
