Partnerships

British Culture Archive works with museums, galleries, publishers, festivals, cultural organisations, brands and public bodies on projects connected to British documentary photography.

Our work spans exhibitions, publishing, image licensing, archive projects and public-facing cultural programmes.

BCA represents selected works by photographers whose images form part of Britain’s social and cultural record. We work carefully with photographers, estates and partner organisations to make sure the work is presented properly, credited correctly and used in the right context.

Working with BCA

British Culture Archive can support partners with image research, exhibition projects, publication licensing, archive presentation and cultural programming.

We are especially interested in projects connected to British social history, youth culture, music, fashion, working-class life, protest, migration and post-war Britain.

Partnerships can include image licensing, exhibition collaboration, publishing projects, archive research, public talks, education activity and commissioned editorial features.

Who we work with

BCA works with a range of cultural and commercial partners, including:

  • Museums and galleries
  • Publishers and picture researchers
  • Festivals and arts organisations
  • Broadcasters and production companies
  • Universities and researchers
  • Brands with a genuine connection to British culture
  • Public bodies and community organisations

Each project is considered carefully. BCA is not a stock image library. We work with partners where the use is appropriate, properly credited and aligned with the value of the work.

Exhibitions and cultural projects

British Culture Archive works with institutions and cultural partners on exhibitions, displays and public projects involving British documentary photography.

We can assist with image selection, rights clearance, photographer liaison, captions, credit lines, print supply, digital presentation and related publishing opportunities.

Where BCA represents the selected works, enquiries should come through BCA so that licensing, permissions and usage terms are handled clearly from the outset.

Publishing and licensing

BCA licenses selected images for books, catalogues, editorial projects, broadcast, film, design and cultural use.

We work with publishers, picture editors, researchers and producers to identify suitable images, confirm rights, agree usage terms and supply files to the required specification.

For image licensing enquiries, please visit our Image Licensing page or contact us directly.

Archive and community partnerships

BCA is also interested in partnerships that help preserve, present and share important photographic records of British life.

This includes work with local history groups, community organisations, public institutions and archives where documentary photography can help tell stories that deserve a wider audience.
