British Culture Archive licensed Tony Davis’s photograph Ravers at The Eclipse, Coventry, 1991 to the National Gallery of Victoria for its major Westwood | Kawakubo exhibition in Melbourne.
The exhibition paired the work of Vivienne Westwood with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, bringing together fashion, archive material and cultural context to explore the worlds around both designers.
Davis’s photograph documents the early 1990s rave scene in Britain, capturing a moment when music, fashion and youth culture were closely connected. Its inclusion helped place the exhibition’s design history within a wider social and cultural setting.
The licence reflects BCA’s role as a source for museums, galleries and cultural institutions working with British documentary photography.
