Pete Hill

Pete Hill is a British documentary photographer whose work documents Sheffield’s music, youth culture and everyday life from the late 1970s onwards. He began photographing while still at school, working both on the streets and around the city’s developing punk and post-punk scene.

Hill’s Sheffield music archive includes Cabaret Voltaire at Western Works, The Human League, Clock DVA, Vice Versa, ABC, Artery, I’m So Hollow and early Pulp. Photographed before many of these groups had established national reputations, the work also documents venues, rehearsal spaces and the wider network of musicians and artists working in Sheffield at the time.

Alongside music, Hill photographed young people, football supporters and everyday life across the city. This wider documentary work places the music photographs within a broader view of Sheffield during a period of industrial and social change.
