Chris Hunt | Wolverhampton, 1970s
A selection of images from the series ‘Out of the Darkness’, by Chris Hunt, taken during the mid-1970s in Wolverhampton.
The photographs in this series portray ordinary life in Wolverhampton during that time period, as well as the growing racial tensions that plagued the city during the same time.
Chris “Before I embarked on my career in advertising photography, I continued taking documentary photos, which was my true passion. However, I ultimately decided that I couldn’t make a living out of it which is why I entered the commercial world. From those early shots, approximately in 1975, I have created three more potential books. This series was about the changing face of Wolverhampton in the 1970s, titled ‘Out of Darkness’ which features some vaguely humorous shots whilst also shedding light on the issue of racism in society.”
