Seán Anthony is a photographer based in Tottenham, North London. Working across documentary photography and portraiture, he has photographed Tottenham and neighbouring districts since 2021.
His North London series records streets, housing estates and individuals during a period of extensive redevelopment. The photographs include Tottenham High Road, matchdays around White Hart Lane and estates including Love Lane and Ferry Lane. Anthony’s portraits include former boxer and Windrush campaigner Vernon Vanriel, lifelong teddy boy and bus driver Paul, and Bob with his Spurs tattoos.
British Culture Archive represents selected photographs from Anthony’s North London collection for print editions and image licensing.
Seán Anthony’s portrait of former boxer and Windrush campaigner Vernon Vanriel was selected as one of the 100 winners of the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain Vol. 6. The photograph was displayed on digital screens across the UK in January 2024. Further portraits by Anthony have been selected for two other editions of Portrait of Britain.
His photographs Man in Café and Bus Stop Cowboy were selected for Historic England and Photoworks’ Picturing High Streets programme and entered the Historic England Archive. Man in Café was featured by The Guardian, while work from Anthony’s Tottenham series was shortlisted for the Royal Photographic Society’s 165th International Photography Exhibition.
