About the Image
George Wilson photographed Cain’s Amusement Arcade on the seafront at Herne Bay, Kent, while working there as a bingo caller for two summer seasons between 1981-1982. This access allowed him to document the arcade’s customers, staff and amusements at close quarters.
Wilson had studied documentary photography at Newport under David Hurn. Punchball, taken in 1982, belongs to the resulting series: a sustained document of a seaside arcade that served day trippers, local families and regular customers.
The photograph is published by British Culture Archive as a numbered edition of 50.
Framing
All British Culture Archive prints and editions are supplied unframed and include a white border around the image. Border widths vary according to the proportions of each photograph.
If a mount is used, ask your framer to ensure that the full image, signature and edition details remain visible. A professional framer can advise on suitable archival mounting, glazing and frame options. Prints may also be framed without a mount.
