About the Image
George Wilson documented daily life at Cain’s, an amusement arcade on the seafront in Herne Bay, Kent, in the early 1980s. The work was made while Wilson was employed at the arcade as a bingo caller, a role that gave him sustained access to the space and its routines.
A graduate of David Hurn’s documentary photography course in Newport, Wilson spent two seasons photographing the arcade as day-trippers and local residents passed through. His photographs capture the rhythms of a traditional seaside resort, focusing on work, leisure, and everyday interaction within the arcade.
Framing
All British Culture Archive prints and editions are supplied unframed and include a white border around the image. Border widths vary according to the proportions of each photograph.
If a mount is used, ask your framer to ensure that the full image, signature and edition details remain visible. A professional framer can advise on suitable archival mounting, glazing and frame options. Prints may also be framed without a mount.
