Nico Froehlich | South London 2020s | Open Edition Prints

Nico Froehlich (b. 1990) is a British photographer, born and raised in South East London. Being both British and a second-generation immigrant; themes, such as identity, inclusivity and diversity are emphasised and celebrated in his work.

Nico initially dreamt of becoming an actor, but the camera and photography eventually became his creative outlet. He decided to study at university, after which he gained recognition for his work South of the River and exhibited in the group exhibition Black Bxy Joy at Photofusion.
Social realism in the guise of British cinema had a lasting impact on Nico during his teenage years, which has influenced his direction as a photographer.

“Celebrating and championing the working-class spirit and optimism is paramount, but it would not be authentic if I did not include the social reality that comes with working-class life in Britain.”

Nico currently spends most of his time in South East London working on his long-term project. He also spends a lot of time on his project Bakerloo – a project on the Bakerloo line of The London Underground, which runs from South East London to North London.

Nico has won acclaim for his work and is the recipient of awards including the Creative Review Photography Annual and the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain.
